A picture claiming to prove manipulation by the press is being shared again.
An image showing two different version of The Wall Street Journal with opposing headlines is claiming to prove manipulation by the press.
“Same exact newspaper, same exact date, sold in different areas depending the level of political parties in that area. This is a clear case of the media trainig your brain people. Open your eyes before it’s too late.”
The headlines are real, BUT the claims in the accompanying text is false. As Snopes already stated, these different editions weren’t distributed to different political areas, nor intended to influence opinions.
These editions were published at different times of the day. The paper on the left came out earlier that day, as Colleen Schwartz, the Vice President of Communications at The Wall Street Journal, confirmed to Snopes. It had been published after Trump met with Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto early in the day. But after Trump delivered a speech on immigration later in the day the article got revised to match the new development.
The two different versions exist, but the claim is false. The right version is a revision of the article after Trump gave a speech.
