Mimikama® – Association for information about Internet abuse. Since 2011, we have the goal to protect the internet user.
The name “Mimikama®” is a fabricated word that originated from a Google translation of “Like”. Since our work is strongly connected to social life, in social networks, our name represents a bridge between the two.
Since 2011, our goal has been to protect the internet user: ZDDK / Mimikama® “We are human!”
In 2011, we, as an association, set out to counteract and fight against Internet abuse, Internet fraud, false reports and fake news.
Our focus is primarily on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp, where we answer user questions directly or check information and rumours sent to us.
Facebook, twitter, and WhatsApp serve as distribution networks used by groups and individuals to get their stories and facts out to a worldwide audience.
Information from users is often passed on unthinkingly, uncritically and unchecked, which makes users susceptible to false narratives. As a result, the internet is used by various providers of information to deliberately spread incorrect content.
Expose false reports, clarify twisted content, and react to user problems.
Our mission is to expose false reports, clarify twisted content and react to user inquiry. Now, more then ever, these actions are necessary given the high speed nature of social media and the strong emotional response to political disagreements.
With our work we preventively protect Internet users of all age groups from suspicious and dangerous content. We expose so-called hoaxes (fake news and false reports) in German-speaking countries which have increased dramatically since the wave of refugees began arriving.
What exactly are we doing?
We stand against internet abuse, Internet fraud and cybercrime which can affect any of us. We expose subscription traps, spam mails, false reports, harmful links, deliberately controlled manipulations and hate messages from an objective viewpoint.
Based on gained knowledge, we write analysis and research reports on our website https://www.facebook.com/mimikama.at/, which then reaches users via our Facebook pages www.facebook.com/zddk.eu and https://www.facebook.com/mimikama.at/. Another focus is the personal assistance with user inquiries, which are sent directly to us.
We are not alone
We not only work with a team of volunteers who invest a lot of time and energy into Mimikama®, but also with well-known media, local police stations, the German Federal Criminal Police Office and the German State Criminal Police Office.
International cooperation is also necessary and important for our activities.
We not only support people in German-speaking countries (Austria/Switzerland/Germany) but we are also active in the Netherlands. Our team consists of volunteers from four different nations.
In addition to the antivirus software manufacturer Kaspersky Lab, our partners include Kobik (Coordination Office for Combating Internet Crime) from Switzerland, the Internet Ombudsman, the Watchlist Internet, Saferinternet, Stopline (Report Office against Child Pornography and National Socialism on the Internet), 147-Rat auf Draht (The Austrian Emergency Call in for children, young people and their caregivers) from Austria and many more. Contact with various press offices, the media and the consumer centres is part of our daily routine.
Because we are very accessible and our work is clear and concise, we currently enjoy a very high reputation in the media and with journalists who see us as a one of a kind supervisory expert.
This is reflected not only in the high frequency of TV appearances and our presence in print media but also by the invitations to present during the ORF Journalism Days 2016 and the many panel discussions at home and abroad.
What do we want?
We want to make the Internet a bit safer with our work and hope this effort filters down into the communities in which we live.
With our articles and together with our community, we at Mimikama® want to provide a platform for objective discussions that acts completely independently.
The aim is to give Internet users tools to make decisions and comments in the sense of a functioning society and not a destructive and divisive one.
Since virtual reality is having more and more influence, even on the actual reality, it is an urgent matter for us to offer a hand on the internet to which people can hold on to. A hand that does not exploit them but encourages them to act with humanity.
